America’s Breweries Break Pre-Prohibition Record
Charlie Papazian muses on the Brewer’s Association’s mid-year report, which concluded that there are 1,525 breweries in America. 1,525! According to Papazian, the previous record for the highest number of breweries dates back to 1910, when there were 1,498. Huzzah for record breaking brewing!
I’m excited about this for two reasons. a) that’s 1,525 breweries out there that demand exploring. And b) there are now 27 more breweries then there were in 2008. It’s no small feat to get a brewery up and running, yet nearly 30 daring brewers have taken the plunge. I think this is cause for celebration—and for keeping an eye out for beers you’ve never tried before.
