Drink The Craft

Craft beer news from San Diego and beyond.

It’s HOT in San Diego this weekend. Scorching hot. Which means that when the sun goes down (or before), a thirst-quenching pint is in order. Here are a few* local thirst-quenchers to help you beat the heat:

Ballast Point’s Longfin Lager

This is Ballast Point’s take on the German Helles style—a straw-colored colored lager with a medium body and subtle flavor. From the German Beer Institute: “A Helles is one of life’s great gastronomic pleasures. It relies on its incredible subtlety to dazzle the senses. When you pour a Helles into your glass, a tall, firm, creamy-white head rises above its straw-blond brilliance and the beer will appeal to you with mouthwatering allure.” ‘nuff said.

The Bruery’s Orchard White

The Bruery calls it’s Orchard White a “California White Ale,” and with the addition of oats and lavender, it is indeed an inventive twist on a traditional Belgian wheat. Last year, Draft Magazine named it one of the top 25 beers of 2008, claiming that “Orchard White has quickly become one of the best interpretations of a Belgian-style witbier around.”

Port Brewing Co’s Summer Pale Ale

This seasonal from Port Brewing Co. is citrusy and hoppy and seems the definition of a San Diego summer beer. It has been showing up on taps around town, so be sure to get it while you can. Check out it’s listing on Taphunter for the latest.

*Note: This list was going to be much, much longer, but I’m abandoning it in search of some water to jump in. To be continued…
